Norman Robert Murphy

On Thursday, April 24 2025, Norm Murphy passed away surrounded by his loving wife Cathy and four daughters.
Born in Galt, Ontario on August 26th 1938, Norm’s entrepreneurial spirit and hard work was evident from a young age. He began his business career at 4 years old by decorating old cans and selling them door to door as garbage bins. Norm was a prolific football player, and was offered a contract in the Canadian Football League, but instead opted to enter the sheet metal trade, and in 1960 graduated from the Provincial Institute of Trades in Toronto.
Norm served as President from 1966-2018 of the creatively named N.R. Murphy Limited company. During those years he oversaw the manufacturing and installation of thousands of air pollution control equipment across the world. This equipment was designed and sold to reduce the impact of air pollution on people and the environment.
Norm was passionate and proud of many things. His sheet metal license, art and literature, hunting and the outdoors, and creative problem solving- but what he was most proud of was the people in his life: family, friends, employees, business partners, and members of his communities. The way in which Norm would laud and praise them on their talents and abilities to new people, you would have thought he had no accomplishments of his own to talk about.
While Norm will be dearly missed by his family and friends, his legacy will live on, every time the equipment adorned with his name is powered up around the world.
