Overview
Rubber manufacturing involves a range of processes—mixing, milling, extrusion, grinding, reclaiming, and vulcanization—all of which generate airborne dust, fumes, and fine particulates. Common sources include carbon black, powdered additives, synthetic rubber compounds, and recycled rubber materials. These particulates can be abrasive, sticky, or chemically reactive, depending on the formulation and process. Without proper dust control, they pose serious risks to worker health, product quality, and equipment longevity.
Challenges & Considerations
Sticky and Agglomerating Particles: Rubber dust tends to cling to surfaces and clump together, making it harder to convey, filter, and clean.
Heavy-Duty Wear: Rubber dust is often abrasive, especially when mixed with fillers like silica or metal oxides, leading to accelerated wear on ducting and filtration systems.
Carbon Black and Additive Dust: Extremely fine and difficult to capture, carbon black and other powdered fillers can escape into the air, stain surfaces, and create respiratory hazards.
Demanding Maintenance Cycles: Rubber dust can quickly clog filters, coat ductwork, and accumulate in hard-to-reach areas. This leads to more frequent maintenance, increased downtime, and higher operational costs if systems aren’t designed for easy access and cleaning.
Optimized Filter Design
Our dust collectors feature increased spacing between filters to improve airflow, reduce pressure drop, and minimize clogging—especially critical when handling sticky or agglomerating dust like carbon black or rubber fines. This extra spacing also allows for more effective pulse cleaning and easier filter access during service. To further reduce buildup and extend filter life, we utilize non-stick filter media engineered to resist adhesion from fine, oily, or tacky particulates.
Cyclone Pre-Filter
Rubber can be quite abrasive, especially for facilities running 24/7. By utilizing a cyclone before the dust collector, you can extend the lifespan of your equipment and filter bags. Our cyclones can be fitted with AR-400 material for maximum wear-resistance.
Ease of Service
Maintenance in rubber processing is notoriously demanding—carbon black, sticky compounds, and abrasive fillers can quickly clog filters and coat internal surfaces, making service both frequent and labor-intensive. To help reduce maintenance burdens and improve safety, we recommend integrating caged safety ladders, elevated maintenance platforms, and remote-mounted fans. These features not only streamline access to critical components but also minimize exposure to confined spaces and high-heat zones. By designing with serviceability in mind, we help facilities stay productive, compliant, and safe—even in one of the industry’s toughest dust environments.
