Overview

Recycling facilities handle a wide range of materials—metals, plastics, paper, electronics, and more—all of which generate dust during shredding, sorting, crushing, and conveying. Common sources include fine particulate from ground plastics, metallic dust from scrap processing, fiber and coating residue from paper recycling, and hazardous compounds from e-waste. These airborne materials vary in size, composition, and toxicity, making dust control essential for worker safety, equipment longevity, and environmental compliance.

Challenges & Considerations

Combustible and Toxic Dust: Certain materials—especially metals, plastics, and e-waste—produce dust that is both combustible and potentially hazardous, requiring specialized filtration and safety features

Stringy and Fibrous Waste: Long, tangled materials like plastic film, wire, or paper trim can clog ductwork and wrap around fan blades, leading to blockages and maintenance issues.

Odor and VOC Emissions: Some recycling processes release volatile organic compounds or unpleasant odors, especially in plastics and organics handling.

Heavy Wear and Tear: Abrasive dust from metals and glass can erode ducting, filters, and housings, shortening equipment lifespan

HEPA After-Filters & Broken Bag Detectors

Implement secondary safeguards to ensure harmful chemical dusts are properly filtered. We can supply and install HEPA housing units on the return ducting line to capture even the smallest leftover particles. Also available is the particulate detection system, which monitors return airflow to ensure the filtration is working as designed.

Nanofiber Cartridge

Our advanced nanofiber cartridge filters are rated for MERV 15, meaning it is capable of capturing up to 94% of dust particles sized from 0.3 to 1.0 microns. For reference the diameter of an average human hair follicle is 75 microns.

Cyclone Pre-Filter

Recycling applications can be quite abrasive, especially for facilities running 24/7. By utilizing a cyclone before the dust collector, you can extend the lifespan of your equipment and filter bags. Our cyclones can be fitted with AR-400 material for maximum wear-resistance.
