Overview

Forestry operations—including sawmills, wood processing plants, biomass facilities, and pellet production—generate substantial volumes of airborne dust. Common sources include wood chips, sawdust, shavings, bark, and fine particulates released during cutting, grinding, planing, sanding, and conveying. These materials vary in size, moisture content, and combustibility, making dust control essential for maintaining safe, clean, and compliant work environments.

Challenges & Considerations

Remote and Rugged Locations: Forestry operations often take place in remote or outdoor environments, requiring durable, weather-resistant systems that can be serviced easily.

Combustible Dust Risk: Wood dust is highly combustible, especially when dry and finely milled. Accumulated dust in ductwork, silos, or processing areas can lead to fire or explosion hazards.

High Dust Volume: Sawmills and biomass facilities produce large quantities of dust continuously, requiring systems that can handle heavy loads without clogging or frequent maintenance.

Variable Particle Size and Moisture: Wood dust ranges from fine powder to coarse chips, and moisture levels can fluctuate—affecting filtration efficiency and system performance.

Built to Last

Our most popular model within the Forestry industry is our rugged FBP dust collector. Featuring a primary cyclonic filter to reduce wear and tear on the filter media, these dust collectors are built standard with satin-coated sheet metal and grade 5 zinc hardware.

Service Friendly Design

We engineer our dust collectors with serviceability at the forefront—making routine maintenance safer, faster, and more efficient. We recommend a ladder and access platform package as well as a remote mounted fan placement.

High Capacity

Some of our largest systems have been utilized in the forestry industry. We use some of our largest filters to tackle large chunks of wood waste, it can help reduce clogging and increase efficiency.  Incorporate a rotary air lock to immediately remove waste from the system.
